Toronto broke a 3-game slide with a 6-1 win at Baltimore yesterday and I think it carries that momentum over here. Toronto is now tied with Tampa Bay at 62-54 and second in the AL East, with the surging Orioles sitting right behind at 61-56. The Red Sox are 59-59 and all of them are looking up at the slumping Yankees, who are now 73-45. New York broke a 3-game skid last night as well with an 8-7, extra-inning home victory over the Rays. I think we're going to have another tight battle on our hands again here in the Bronx on Thursday night as well. New York actually needed a grand slam from Josh Donaldson in the bottom of the tenth to earn its victory last night. Can anyone say "letdown" spot here?! Note that the Yanks haven't won 2 straight games since late July, going 4-12 in that stretch. Toronto fans can empathize, as their team has gone just 4-9 in its past 13. Frankie Montas is 4-9 with a 3.59 ERA for the Yanks, but he's 1-1 with an 8.10 ERA in 2 career appearances vs. Toronto. Jose Berrios is 8-5 with a 5.61 ERA for Toronto this season. He's 2-3 with a 5.35 ERA in 7 career starts vs. the Yanks. No advantage here for either starter. Divisional contests are always the most important, especially at this time of year. I think this one will be competitive; consider Toronto on the runline option!
