This is an 8* EAST-COAST TOP TOTAL on the UNDER Bruins/Flyers.
Here we have an Eastern Conference matchup between two opponents that know each other well. The Bruins are at Philadelphia and I'm thinking we're going to see a tighter and ultimately lower-scoring affair in this one.
Philadelphia is 1-1 and it's looked good on the offensive end so far and poor on the defensive end.
The Flyers lost 5-4 to the Canucks in a shootout in their opening game, and then three nights later they'd hammer the Kracken by a score of 6-1. Both of those games went OVER the number, but I think we'll see a much tighter game here against this stingy Bruins defense.
Philadelphia enjoys two whole nights off after this before a fourth straight home game against the Panthers, so the Flyers are definitely going to try and benefit from their early favorable schedule.
But Boston has been one of the best on the defensive end of the ice over the last five years. Tuukka Rask has moved on from the Bruins, but Boston is in good hands with Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman. They come into the season with great numbers.
But for me, this isn't really about who is or isn't starting in net for these teams. I think that this one sets up great as a lower-scoring game from a situational stand point.
The Bruins haven't played since a dominant 3-1 home win over the Stars on the 16th, so they're coming in completely rested here after three nights between games.
I think the Bruins will look to slow this one down and grind out a victory here aas they sit back and wait for the Flyers to make the first mistake.
I can't lay the price on a road favorite this early in the season, but whoever does end up winning this game, I believe it's going to be a low-scoring victory.
