This has been a back-and-forth series, but we like the Yanks to build off yesterday's 3-0 win as they look to close with a victory with their ace on the mound.
Miguel Almonte: He makes his season debut tonight. He's been pretty good in Double-A Northwest Arkansas, with a 1.86 ERA over six starts.
Masahiro Tanaka: He's 5-3 with a 6.56 ERA. He's coming off an outing to forget in which he gave up six runs over just three innings. For the most part Tanaka has struggled this year, which is a bit confounding.
The bottom line: Here's the perfect opponent to get untracked against for Tanaka. The Japanese hurler was nearly untouchable at home last season, going 7-1 with a 3.86 ERA. Clearly Almonte has his hands full today in this spot start and we're expecting a predictable letdown. Note that the Royals are just just 4-11 (-7.6 units) in all "day" games this year, while New York is 9-5 (+4.2 units) in the same position. Play on the YANKEES.
