The Royals exploded for a 9-7 win yesterday, but we're expecting a much lower-scoring "pitchers duel" on Wednesday night:
Dallas Keuchel: He's 9-0 with a 1.67 ERA. He most recently allowed three hits and two walks while striking out seven over six scoreless in a 7-1 win over Texas on Friday. Note that he's been particularly strong on the road by going 5-0 with a 2.20 ERA.
Jason Vargas: He's 7-3 with a 2.08 ERA. Vargas most recently nine innings against Cleveland on Friday, giving up non runs off seven hits while striking out three in the 4-0 win. Vargas struggled previous to this gem, but note that he's been at his best in front of the home town crowd this year, going 4-1 with a tiny 1.59 ERA.
The bottom line: So far it's been the big bats that have been the main story line in this series, but we expect that to change tonight. All signs point to a lower-scoring UNDER.
